I'm using wampserver (PHP 5.3.0 and APACHE 2.2.11), symfony 1.4. and MSSQL like database engine.
The tast symfony doctrine:insert-sql returns:

Couldn't locate driver named mssql.

This is my database.yml

all:
doctrine:
class: sfDoctrineDatabase
param:
dsn: 'mssql:dbname=base_test;host=127.0.0.1'
username: user
password: pass

I would just like to thank you for your response to this question as it solved my issue completely.

PHP was installed using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer, and I have been trying to connect to a SQL Express 2008 database for days.

I have read alot online about the php_mssql.dll, php_odbc.dll, php_sqlsrv.dll etc.... And only on here did I find any mention of the php_pdo_mssql.dll extension which fixed my problem.

I initially downloaded the binary zip file from the PHP website and copied across the required dll, but it would not seem to load every time I restarted IIS. Then tried the non-thread safe version and now I can connect successfully.

I thought I would share my experience, in case anyone in the future is looking to fix the "Couldn't locate driver mssql" error message.
