Hi there,
I have been searching and searching but still no luck in getting debugging with eclipse pdt + xdebug to work properly.

Now first of all here are my settings:
[Apache]

<VirtualHost fizzevents.local:80>
DocumentRoot /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents/web
DirectoryIndex index.php
<Directory /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents/web>
AllowOverride All
Allow from All
</Directory>

Alias /sf /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents/lib/vendor/symfony /data/web/sf
<Directory /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents/lib/vendor/symfony /data/web/sf >
AllowOverride All
Allow from All
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

[Eclipse Debug Server]
Server Name: fizzevents
Root URL: http://fizzevents.local
[Path mapping]
Path on server: http://fizzevents.local
Local path: /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents/web

Now I have set the "Break at first line" option checked and I start the debug on http://fizzevents.local/admin_dev.php but the debug doesn't break.
Also breakpoints are skipped.

I tried inserting xdebug_break() in my code. Finally it breaks but when I try to step it just continues until the end of execution.

After searching I found out that eclipse is not breaking because it might not be able to associate the files from server to local, however I HAVE SET the local path to the root of my virtual host.
I also have tried to just change the virtual host settings to point to the actual root (not web) but also without any result.

I urgently need help in this Sad
I am about to give up

I've never used xdebug.

Did you search here, there are quite a few people who have had difficulty with getting xdebug to work with symfony. What version of xdebug are you using, version of PHP, version of symfony, platform?

I've read on this board that recompiling xdebug helped one person, but of course YMMV.

hey,
I finally got it solved. It was a problem with the xdebug configuration and the server path configuration.

The server path config has to be a file system path NOT a URL.
Furthermore after digging and digging (with help of one good man in #xdebug on irc.freenode.org) we found out that there was another extension configuration in my php.ini which made xdebug not load as a zend extension. Removing that and correcting the server path value to /home/mozzy/Documents/projects/fizzevents made it work like a charm
