I have an old project which was developed on 1.0 and we are not allowed to upgrade it as its stable and went through rigorous QA and approved by the State contracts etc... but our log files are set to purge and every certain time frame which I've not nailed down onto yet..... it rotates and purges properly but truncates older files already in history directory to zero bytes ???
Why would it zero byte files that have already been rotated that really is nerve racking and killing my tracking of log files.

Are you referring to your symfony logs?

How are you rotating and purging? Are you using logrotate?

Yes symfony logs not logrotate, I just run a cronjob at midnight to launch the purge logs routine.

OK, you're using the symfony "log-purge" symfony CLI command. Right. I don't use this, so I would first check in trac to see if there are any outstanding 1.0 tickets for it.

You don't state which version of 1.0 you're on, but make sure you are up to date with the latest version in this branch.

Also set up a new project and see if you can replicate this behaviour. It might be a permissions problem, perhaps.

Lastly if other ideas are not forthcoming, it might be worth tracing the code to see where the problems are starting, and indeed if the code is meant to do what you intend.

or just use logrotate on the linux box and be done with it which is another option I guess.
