i'm having a strange error with apache 2.2 - when i run "symfony init-project projectx", the project is created successfully, but non-php files, like main.css, don't load in the browser.

apache returns 0 bytes for the files, though they're on the system, and have the correct contents. has anyone else experienced something similar? has anyone found a solution? Smile

thanks a lot!

Each time I do a pear install on symfony or symfony-beta the download happens and then it aborts with the helpful message "Killed".

I tried with -v and I get

Hi peeps Smile

i upgrades the symfony today (0.6). I have recognised that, after running the task init-project, the folder test is missing.

If i run the init-module task symfony (pake) throws the following errors.

Warning: copy(X:\www\synfony\ftp/test/frontend/userActionsTest.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\php\pear\pake\pakeFunction.php on line 132

Add the folder manually everything is fine.

Hi all

I've been experimenting with v0.6-alpha and am close to starting a project - having selected Symfony as our framework of choice. I am happy to use yesterday's release of v0.6-stable, but bug fixes to this presumably will be v0.7x. Will this break anything? Would I be better off starting my project under the beta version from the start?

Thanks all

Jon

How do i set what symfony uses to create the initial propel.ini (in %project_root%/config/) when i issue a symfony init-project command. Or am I supposed to edit that file so that it reflects the connection I want to use? If so I thought that is what databases.yml was for, however it does not seem that propel.ini mirrors the data in databases.yml.

Can anyone help out with the confusion I am having surrounding this issue?

Hi Everyone,

We've been trying to run Symfony on Lighttpd.
Most things seem to be running fine except for the default .htaccess file that needs to be translated into lighttpd's rewrite rules.

We'll greatly appreciate any help in migrating the above rules to lighty or sharing your experience in running symfony and lighttpd.

Regards,

Eyal

Hi,

I'm trying to install Symfony on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 5.10. I have installed and tested PHP5 and PEAR, but I keep getting this result:

jakob@ubuntu:~$ sudo pear channel-discover pear.symfony-project.com
Command 'pear.symfony-project.com' is not valid, try 'pear help'

How come?

UPDATE: Problem solved! I had to upgrade PEAR... Sorry.

Hi,

I have just installed symfony by hand on a production server, and uploaded my applications to use symfony via symlinks set up to point to symfony/lib and symfony/data.

I uploaded my application to /var/www/myproject/webapps and created a symlink from httpdocs to /var/www/myproject/webapps/web.

The application is running fine and dandy now, except for the file uploading part. I have a form for administrators to upload images, which will get saved to the /web/uploads folder. I have resolved the initial 'not writable' errors, and not the action completes with no complaints, but the file is just now uploaded.

I do not know what I am missing, or could it be that I'm not allowed to write to folder via symlink?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
my hosting provider (godaddy) has both php4 and php5 and I have added "AddHandler" to my /project/web/.htaccess to handle .php files by php5 engine, but when I access index.php, the browser shows the source code rather than executing it.

If I rename the index.php to index.php5, it executes the scripts, but all the URL's get messed up i.e. it puts index.php5 in the URL and none of the images, css, js gets executed since the path is wrong.

Any idea? I think, it I get this working, I will have fully working symfony in production environment since I can see that all the mysql's are working.

btw, I have tried both "dev" and "prod" environment and also, I have tried putting "no_script_name" to "on" (also tried "off"! just in case) in my settings.yml file.

here is my .htaccess file

AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php4

Trying to set custom file structure settings by copying the constants.php file. Have tried putting the modified constants.php in <project>/config and <app>/config directories, but the default settings are not being overwritten. Have also tried removing the default constants.php, but it doesn't appear that the project and app level constants files are being read at all.

Overall, I need to centralize the sf_lib_dir to be reused across multiple projects and I have to place sf_cache_dir, sf_upload_dir, sf_test_dir, sf_log_dir outside of the web tree structure.

Is there something else I need to do besides copying and modifying these files?

Hello!

I have upgraded my symfony (version 0.5 I think) to de latest beta version, 0.7.1048 by de pear command:

pear upgrade symfony/symfony-beta

and now all my symfony projects give this error:

Warning: main(symfony/symfony/pear.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in D:\AppServ\www\askeet\frontend\config\config.php on line 16
Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening 'symfony/symfony/pear.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;D:\AppServ\php\pear') in D:\AppServ\www\askeet\frontend\config\config.php on line 16

In fact, that file doesn't exist anymore, but I suppose that means that it is not working alright.

Does anyone have the same problem? Or Know what to do to solve the problem?
thanks a lot

Getting some wierd behavior on propel-build-schema:

I'm using symfony version 0.7.1048. Suddenly - build-schema no longer works. It doesn't report any error - it just gracefully stops without finishing. this is the output:

It stops before "[propel-creole-transform] DB connection established" But there is no error message. I know the db info is working, that is for sure.

Hey folks.

I've managed to get symfony installed through pear and MAMP on OS X and I've spent the day going through the project creation instructions. Things have been going pretty well, but I hit a snag creating my subversion repository.

Running this command:

$ svn mkdir -m "layout creation" file:///$SVNREP_DIR/morrow/trunk file:///$SVNREP_DIR/morrow/tags file:///$SVNREP_DIR/morrow/branches

I get the following error:

subversion/libsvn_fs_fs/tree.c:309: (apr_err=160013)
svn: File not found: transaction '0-1', path '/morrow/branches'

This seemed weird to me that it was only the last path that caused problems, but I'm new to subversion so maybe someone knows what's up. Keep in mind that I've added the correct $SVNREP_DIR variable to /etc/profile and that "morrow" is both the name of my project and the repository that I created with svnadmin.

Thanks in advance!

after going through the online docs for subversion, i see the recomended file structure is to have your project files in a folder called trunk with two additional folders tag and tree

from the book...
Quote:

In this example, we assume that you already have some sort of project (a collection of files and directories) that you wish to import into your newly created Subversion repository. Begin by organizing them into a single directory called myproject (or whatever you wish). For reasons that will be clear later (see Chapter 4, Branching and Merging), your project's tree structure should contain three top-level directories named branches, tags, and trunk. The trunk directory should contain all of your data, while branches and tags directories are empty:

how do users of symfony who use subversion arrange their directory stucture? especially seeing that symfony has its own required structure?

I use WinAce archiver to extract the sf_sandbox.tgz.

Don't ask me why, but some filenames are altered with chmod values:
for example, instead of having ConstraintNameGenerator.php I have ConstraintNameGe0000644 ... and of course all the includes failed !

http://lusinebleue.com/winace.gif

If I rename manually the files (knowing their correct name thanks to the php warnings), eveything works fine ! Smile

If I open the sf_sandbox.tgz with 7-Zip instead of WinAce, all the files are normally named.

So it looks like an WinAce issue ! Shocked

I am copying the <pear_data_dir>/symfony/config/constants.php to <project_dir>/config/constants.php and modifying 'sf_base_cache_dir' value.

Nothing happens. The copy of constants.php is being ignored.

Is there something else I must do to have this file read and the new values accepted?

Thanks,

I am not sure how much of this is trouble with symfony and how much is propel, but below is the list of steps I had to take to port a symfony schema to MS SQLServer. I thought I would post it in case there are bugs that can be fixed and also to help anyone else who may need to do the same task. I would also be most happy to learn if the source of my problems was in front of the screen and if so what I did wrong.

I started with a schema.xml file that works wonderfully in MySQL. Instead of editing the databases.yml I had to edit the propel.ini file to use propel.database = mssql. I discovered this from some related tickets although supposedly this bug was already fixed (I am using 0.7.1218). Once I made this change, I was able to get the symfony propel-build-sql command to generate SQLServer syntax instead of MySQL syntax.

Unfortunately, I also had to make a couple of other changes. I now have 2 separate versions of my schema.xml file. The MySQL version uses
onDelete="RESTRICT" onUpdate="RESTRICT"
in the foreign key attributes and the SQLServer one replaces these with
onDelete="NO ACTION" onUpdate="NO ACTION"

In the resulting schema.sql file I then had to replace all occurrences of
CONSTRAINT [<table_name>]_PK PRIMARY KEY ([id])
with
CONSTRAINT [<table_name>_PK] PRIMARY KEY ([id])
I assume this is a bug in propel that puts the ] in the wrong place.

I also had to move all of the foreign key statements to the bottom of the file since SQLServer doesn't appear to have an equivalent to the MySQL set foreign_key_checks = 0 statement.

Lastly, I had to edit any foreign keys referencing the user table to use [user] instead. Propel does a pretty good job of putting the [] around all table and column names but it appears they missed this spot.

The good news is that once I made all of these changes the script runs just fine.

I am not looking forward to repeating these steps every time my model changes.

i get this error message when i try to insert some values from a form

"Could not begin transaction [Native Error: ]"

as you can see there is no native error showing.

i am using mysqli. all is set up as it should be in database.yml, and propel.ini
the action is listed here:
  public function executeAddPerson()
  {
     if ($this->getRequest()->getMethod() == sfRequest::POST)
     {
				// create person
        $p_data = new Person();
        $p_data->setPrefix($this->getRequestParameter('field_prefix'));
        $p_data->setFirstName($this->getRequestParameter('field_firstName'));
        $p_data->setMiddleName($this->getRequestParameter('field_middleName'));
        $p_data->setLastName($this->getRequestParameter('field_lastName'));
        $p_data->setSuffix($this->getRequestParameter('field_suffix'));
        $p_data->setBirthday($this->getRequestParameter('field_birthday'));
        $p_data->save();
     }
  }

i have also specifically used $con = ...a new transaction
$p_data->save($con);
$con->commit();
and did a try, except with a $con->rollback(), but no use

what seems to be the problem? i mean, everything is set up pretty well. i can't figure what i did wrong or what's setup wrong.

I'm new to Symfony, so I didn't immediately recognize this problem until I previewed my site in Internet Explorer (which showed me the broken images).

Bottom line is, if you're generated web pages are coming out very plain looking without colorful buttons, etc. It is probably because you are missing the web/sf directory.

I downloaded the source code for one of the example applications, and then copied the contents of the web/sf directory into my application's web/sf directory.

To prevent this from happening on future projects, I also copied it into the project skeleton directory

/usr/share/pear/data/symfony/skeleton/project/web/sf

Hope this helps!

Hi,
I have a specific question:
When exaclty the method sfRouting::parse is called?

The problem is that I am calling the URL http://xxxxx.com/mohammad/askeet/web/frontend_dev.php/user/l ogin/

and my .htacess file is

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /mohammad/askeet/web

So, I assume that
"/user/login/" is passed to sfRouting::parse, but the actualy value that is passed is "/".

cheers,
--Mohammad

Creating the sf symbolic link in /sfdemo/web/sf for the javascript handlers works fine, but I'm curious as to why:

Alias /sf "/application/mamp/bla/bla/symfony/web/sf"

directive doesn't work when placed in httpd.conf

This is on OSX running MAMP with htdocs as the root

Other than this minor problem everything is running great!

I am working on a shared hosting, installed all, started with a new project (the blog tutorial) and after some work almost everything seems to be working fine.

The problems are:

All routes are like:

web/sf/images/sf_debug_stats/close.png

And the file is there but when I try to access to blog_dev.php/XXX (like comment or post) the browser ask for this image:

/test/web/blog_dev.php/web/sf/images/sf_debug_stats/close.png

The project is at domain.org/test/

Also CSS and Js has routes like:

web/css/web/sf/css/sf_debug_stats/main.css

But only when accessing blog_dev.php/XXX otherwise they are the usual:

web/sf/css/sf_debug_stats/main.css

=== THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED ===

Hi,

I'm setting up symfony production environment on a shared hosting.

My host provided me with shell access and I got permission to install PEAR locally (for my account). However I'm new to this kind of installation and I don't want to affect global PEAR settings for the entire server (I'd probably look for a new host if this had happened...)

I followed the "The traditional way of installing a local copy of PEAR through ftp" from http://pear.php.net/manual/en/installation.shared.php

My server root is /home/sites/mydomain.name/public_html, however I have full access to /home/sites/mydomain.name
I've created pear directory under /home/sites/mydomain.name and gave full write permissions to it.
Then I've created password protected directory /home/sites/mydomain.name/public_html/private and put go-pear.php there.
I've executed go-pear.php and chosen /home/sites/mydomain.name/pear as PEAR installation directory.
All went ok.

Then I run PEAR webinstaller.
Most of the paths look ok, but my concerns are:
1. "PHP extension directory" points outside of my server root dir
2. As I'm not familliar with this kind of setup I'm not sure if I can start installing PEAR packages without affecting global PEAR configuration.

Thanx
Peter

Forgive me if this is a basic question, I'm just learning subversion and can't figure out how it works with a symfony project with multiple editors...

I've got two people working on a project - myself (php/symfony work) and a designer(css and templates only). We'll potentially both be making changes to templates primarily, so we'd like to be able to do that independently and merge changes later.

So I set up a repository, then I check out a copy to the working web directory so that I can edit things. Now, if the designer is going to work on stuff I assume he needs to check out his own copy - where does that copy go? I assume it doesn't go in the same directory I'm using (since we'd then be overwriting each other's files). It can't go to his local machine, because then he can't test it on the live application. Do I need to create two different web-accessible directories for us each to keep development copies, and then have a third one where things get merged for live testing of the complete app? If so, that's no problem but will having three different urls cause any problems with routing, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

I'm simply wondering if there is any possibility of getting Symfony to work with magic_quotes_gpc set to on? The reason is ofcourse that I'm using a shared host (www.b-one.net) that does not allow me to change this value.

If it doesn't, howcome? It should be possible to code around it without too much of a hassle, shouldn't it? And it would improve portability. Really hoping that I can run it even with the setting turned on somehow.

Is there any problem with my ssh, ftp or rsync installation? I have all three installed (running Ubuntu 6.06 x64). The packages are also installed on the webhost.

EDIT:

Mistype by me =/ I had forgotten to remove the ftp:// from my host in the properties.ini.

If I did the download the sourcefiles and copy to /lib/symfony and data/symfony folders technique, would it be possible to only copy over certain folders and not be forced to upgrade to the latest Propel?

When I did my upgrade, and would run propel-build-model it would complain that my version of PHP didn't support XLST, and my project would no longer run. I'd rather not worry about my development environment at the moment, and would like to just keep the old Propel while still upgrading to 6.3 if possible..

Thanks!

Hi!
I'm helping a friend to install Symfony on an IIS server.
We have followed the instructions in the book but have encountered a problem.

We get an error message as we try do access our app.

Configuration file "...pear\data/symfony/config/config_handlers.yml" specifies category "config/app.yml" with missing class key

I can't seem to understand what the problem is. A quick search in this forum found a similar thread, but there was no conclusion.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I have lots of errors after installing PHPEclipse and creating Projects. The main errors are because of bad file paths.

1. I added new project "Nivea" & set "D:\Nivea\" path for it.
2. I added project "Symfony" & set "E:\Server\xampp\php\pear\symfony" path for it.
3. I added project "Symfony" as a reference for "Nivea".

Have anyone being successful installing Symfony (I mean any project using Symfony) in GoDaddy.com. I think GoDaddy.com is a famous web hosting service provider so someone might have done it. The environment is windows 2000 professional. symfony sandbox my first project is being installed on xampp.

When I try to run the command "symfony propel-build-model", I keep getting messages as pasted below. First there were problems with installing symfony on XAMPP. I managed to fix those issues after a day of research on this forum. Then I faced problems executing the symfony.bat file. I fixed those issues and now, I'm having issues with the execution of the symfony commands.

It appears the warnings below are related to forwards slashes ("/") in the hard coded path in the code which would be quite Ok in a linux installation but would be a no no in windows.

Any help would be apprecated...please look below for the messages I'm getting....
