New subforum for symfony 1.2?[ 18 vote(s) ]
1.Definitely, it's different enough to 1.1 to justify it 15 / 83%
2.No, there are enough forums as it is 3 / 17%
3.Don't care either way 0 / 0%

For 1.2 users: let me know whether you want a new forum for this branch of symfony. Thanks.

My reason for saying no is because people might upgrade to 1.2, and then ask a question about something that actually changed in 1.1; people can't be expected to remember or look up which version introduced a particular change. Likewise, someone looking for an answer may not remember or know to search both. But perhaps the best reason is that 1.1 users will start getting exposure to 1.2 issues, which will encourage them to upgrade, as well as easing the upgrade process when they get to it.

Let me propose an alternative: Have a forum specifically for Forms and related stuff, and another specifically for database questions. I'm not sure if we need separate Propel and Doctrine forums, but questions like "How do I convert this SQL into Propel Criteria" aren't related to the symfony version, and people would be more likely to ask them in a dedicated database forum. I'm not sure if we need a forum for the new admin generator, but in the long run, I'd expect we would.

I think it could be great to have a dedicated forum for symfony 1.2

Dividing the forums also divides the questions asked, while many 1.2 questions might be also valid for 1.1 or 1.0 and viceversa. It would be the natural way to go with a forum, anyway, though the best solution would be to post the Symfony version you are using when asking a question on the forum. But we already do that, don't we? Razz

I concur: we need a 1.2 forum. The admin generator and doctrine integration probably justify this. For the beginner I am, it is quite difficult to sort out between what the default symfony functions of 1.2 are, what should be the best practices, and what is not implemented by default but needs a workaround.

I'd love to see code snippets organized by version, too.

EDIT: Unrelated, but it would be good to setup the forum's search engine so that it takes four-letter words. A search on i18n returns nothing...

Thanks to everyone who voted. At 13-2 it looks like there is plenty of demand for the suggestion, so we'll give it a try.

I understand GaryFx's concerns about questions going into the 1.2 forum that belong in 1.1, and vice versa; however I hope that users of both will read both. We'll see how we get on, anyway, and if there are any troubles with getting questions answered please drop me a line.
