Hello,

There times when I get strange errors in Firefox 3 saying:

--- snip ---
Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

* Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
--- snip ---

In Firefox 2 it just does not display anything (looks like blank page). In Opera, IE6 and IE7 it is displayed OK. I wonder if anyone else had this kind of problem, and is it a Firefox issue or just web-site issue?

I have attached a screen-shot of the message in Firefox 3.

I apologize I did not give an example page, so, here it is: A week of symfony #85 (11->17 august 2008)

I did a gzip compression test with GIDZipTestā„¢ and it failed with this error:

Sorry, I am unable to decompress the contents of this page. Possible bogus gzip/deflate encoded data.

However, the test from mod_gzip/gzip Test from whatsmyip.org succeed saying that yes, the web-page is gzipped:

Original Size: 28 KB
Gzipped Size: 8 KB
Data Savings: 71.43%

I've also tried to open the page in lynx and it displayed something like this:

In my opinion it looks more and more like a compression mismatch. I mean the server compresses the content in a way that it cannot be understood by some browsers.

Any ideas?

I found something. The issue comes out only when I configure the Firefox to use the web-proxy (squid/3.0.STABLE8). Without the proxy it works well. However, Opera 9 works well with and without the proxy. Lynx Version 2.8.6rel.5 (09 May 2007) breaks even without the proxy.

I'm lost. Shocked

Hi!

same Problem here! Without Proxy I can visit all pages on symfony-project.org, but behind a proxy: No chance to see any of the plugin pages.

Documentation and many other areas are browsable, so far I've found the problem only on the plugin pages like:

http://www.symfony-project.org/plugins/sfPropelActAsNestedSe tBehaviorPlugin

Error-Message from Firefox is the same (Compression), but in german Wink

Best regards,

Kai

I'm having this problem, too. And I think it's related to a problem of some "garbage characters" before the real HTML document. This problem I see in some symfony projects and I have just posted about it in another thread, please see:
