Question: Is pake version 1.074 (the most recent available on the pake site) compatible with symfony version 0.5.284 (the most recent available on the symfony site)?

I notice that the Pear installation combines symfony 0.4.3 with pake 1.0.81.

But I can't use Pear because I run into the 8M ram limit problem (raised in this forum) and don't have the privileges to increase the limit on the server I use.

That's a question for Fabien. He might need to update that tar file.

Right, the last version of pake is 1.0.81 and I updated the website.

The last version of symfony is compatible with the last version of pake.
